ARCHITECTURE DESIGN
In our designs we combine Italian sensitivity and British expertise. We always engage with the surrounding environment, offering high quality solutions to our Clients requirements. We use advanced software, Autodesk Revit, which allows us to create three-dimensional models of our projects and produce realistic visuals which help our Clients to easily understand our proposals. We can produce designs in any style that is requested, from contemporary to vernacular.
Architectural Design Influence
Architectural Design is the end-result of a process which is influenced by several factors, such as education, work experience, function, structure, cost and many more. Luigi carried out his studies in the University of Rome. Led by the Swiss architect Le Corbusier, the design style was very much influenced by the Modernist Movement.
Another strong influence was the Deconstructive Movement, led by architects such as Peter Eisenman, Frank Ghery and Zaha Hadid. During his studies in the nineties, Zaha Hadid won an important competition to build a museum in Rome. His design has influenced students, including Luigi, for several years.
When Luigi started working, other factors started to emerge as important for the Design process. Clients’ requirements became a primary factor, along with the importance of relating designs to the surrounding environment. Construction costs also dictate many design choices. Although at LDV we take pride in not letting cost restrictions reduce the final quality of the build.
Primary Factors of Building Construction
The ancient Roman architect Vitruvius wrote in his “De Architectura” that building construction is dictated by three primary factors:
- “Firmitas” or structural stability
- “Venustas” or beauty
- “Utilitas” or use.
All other influences fall within the realm of these three factors.
Collaboration with Structural Engineers
With regard to structural stability, we collaborate with trusted, local structural engineers, which we regularly recommend to our clients. This collaboration starts once the Design Stage is complete. However, when we design our projects, we are always evaluating structural factors. During this process we will suggest structural interventions, which will be confirmed and calculated by our engineers.
Aesthetic and Functional Design
In regards to beauty, our style gets its influences from many factors. This might be from contemporary trends, the immediate sorroundings or, of course, clients’ taste. When it comes to functionality, we always advise our Clients about introducing elements which can improve their quality of life. For example, utility rooms, underfloor heating or external lighting, to name a few.
